Being a girl comes up with lots of challenges. All the eyes are fixed on you with too many expectations. your parents want you to grow into an independent lady yet they don’t let you fly with your own wings. On the far side, people think you ought to be perfect and they are vigilantly waiting for you to stumble so they can mock and spread gossip about you. Michelle Obama once said: “You should never view your challenges as a disadvantage. Instead, it's important for you to understand that your experience facing and overcoming adversity is actually one of your biggest advantages.” All the difficulties that you girls go through is actually what makes you stronger.
When you are a girl, everyone want to be part of your choices and decisions: they want to control how you behave, the people you talk with, the kind of friends you hang out with, the boys you date, etc. In addition to that , the world allows itself to have an opinion on the length of your skirt, the color of your lipstick, the style of your hair and all the rest. yeah..you may Consider people’s advises but you will never please them all. At the end of the day it will be up to you to make your own choices, to decide what kind of girl you choose to be. As a girl, You have to be too many things at the same time, dance many drums at once without losing your rhythm. Be a girl who is beautiful in and out, whose beauty goes with brain and who does not need a jury to approve it. Be like butterflies, pretty to see but hard to catch. Not because you want attention but because you want to be esteemed, valued and respected. Be like fireflies, glow in the dark, reflect light in the night. Be kind in this cruel world. However, be prepared, the world is not tender with nice girls. Be a girl who expresses her thoughts, who is not afraid to speak her mind openly. But remember speaking your mind doesn’t mean to be big-mouthed. You need to listen more, speak less and think huge. Be a girl who is growing to be like anybody else but her future self. Maybe you want to be like Oprah Winfrey when you are grown up, that is not actually a bad thing. Oprah is a hard worker, she is not a quitter and she follows her gut. That is exactly the kind of person a girl would want to look up to. Learn things from her but don’t use them to be a Winfrey, use them to be a better you. Be a girl who wants to be a girl. Let the way you express, conduct and behave identify you as a female. Be a girl who enjoys to be a girl. But never ever let your gender restrict you from being who you want to be. Be a daughter, a sister and prepare yourself to become a mother someday. You don’t have to be a girl all men are chasing; you just have to be a girl that attracts the man who is right for her. You don’t have to be a girl everyone calls beautiful; you just have to be a girl who is comfortable with herself. You don’t necessary have to be a girl who makes her parents proud; you just have to be a girl that wants and works to achieve her dreams. you don’t have to be the girl I am telling you to be, you should be the girl that you want to be. Girls are birds girls are butterflies girls can fly and fly with their own wings.

Nice piece Denyse! I like most the verse where you say, girls should enjoy being girls but never let their gender restrict them from being what they want to be.
