How do you start a blog? Is it free? Does it require coding skills? Can I make money blogging?
Those are questions that I have been asked by many of you. In this post I am going to explain how you can start your own blog. It is so easy; it doesn’t require any coding skills and it is totally free. ….if you can make money blogging? Well, I am still figuring out but it is possible. The first thing you have to ask yourself if you want to start blogging is “why do I want to start a blog?” Is it to improve your writing and thinking skills, is it to promote your company or you want to share information with your followers. The second thing is to chose a blogging platform. But What is a blogging platform? Blogging platform is a website that you use to publish your content online in the form of a blog. It kind of manages your content. There are many of these, with all kinds of different features. After having tried many of them I recommend https://www.blogger.com/about/ especially if you are a beginner and you want something simple. I am going to review some of these platforms so you can decide according to what you need. I emphasized manly on Blogger and WordPress because they are the most popular blogging platforms on internet. 1.Blogger: www.blogger.com Blogger is Google’s blog-focused platform that focuses on accessibility, ease of use, and free for the price Pros: It is free: There are no setup fees or upgrade costs. There are no ads on your blog unless you opt-in. Simplicity: Blogger is beginner friendly. If you use Gmail or YouTube or any of Google’s other projects, you don’t even have to sign up. You go to Blogger and sign in with your Google username and password. choose a template, and you are ready to start running your blog and publishing posts. Security: For the security of your blog you don’t have to do worry about anything, Google has your back. Cons: Choosing the way your blog is going to look like: blogger has limited choice of template compared to other blogging platforms. You don’t have much choice when it comes to how your site will appear. Ownership: you don’t own your blog, google owns it. It is very unlikely but If one day google decided to close, you lose all your work. 2. Wordpress: https://wordpress.com/ WordPress is the most popular platform for developing blogs and websites. It has been connecting people who worked on similar projects, and it is community oriented. Pros: Template: It has many different features than blogger. You can design your bog the way you wish and as your blog grows, WordPress will let you add more features or use more resources. Ownership: once you have published the site, it is absolutely yours. You are in control. Cons: Simplicity: It is not that difficult to set up a WordPress blog but it can take time to get used to it. Which is different from Blogger where it takes just a few clicks. Security: Regarding the security of your blog, you are on your own. 3.Medium: https://medium.com/ The good thing about medium is that there is a potential for virality, it can help you to reach a new audience. The problem with medium is you don’t own your content. It functions more like a social media platform than a blog platform, it is like twitter but with longer content. My first publication was on medium, it is a great publication platform and it offers a possibility of getting discovered by large publishers. But medium isn’t great with everything, it wasn’t with me. It works better with bloggers who write on trending hot topics, which isn’t my case. 4.Webflow: https://webflow.com/?rfsn=1149276.d13103 Webflow is like WordPress, the difference is you don’t completely own your content. 5.Weebly:https://www.weebly.com/lp/websites/dual-tst?c=mkt_w_chnl:semb_geo:row_prtnr:ggl_camp:G-S-Brand-EM-ROW_campid:1651318319_ag:weebly_agid:65042082842_kw:weebly_mt:e_dvc:c&gclid=CjwKCAjwwMn1BRAUEiwAZ_jnEnB2cf0prOK-jKTlgGC-w8jD-YHqiNI2lwoUgrElpVhaPUmYddA4MhoCNIEQAvD_BwE Weebly (which this site is built on) is more of a website hosting service than a blog platform. It helps you create a true website for free, still no coding skills needed (it is different from building a website from scratch). After having tried may things, Weebly really suited me perfectly: it has good templates, many different interesting features and you can designed your site the way you want. The downside is you have to set up everything by yourself, but it is not that difficult. My take on the whole blog thing is If you’re a complete beginner and blogging is just a hobby for you, I would always recommend to use Blogger https://www.blogger.com/about . Even though bogger is limited in terms of features and templates, it lets you start a free blog in just a few clicks. However if you want a blogging experience with more options and functionality you can still try other options. Thank you, I hope this information proves helpful to anyone who want to start a blog. Who's behind the blogHello, I am Denyse INEZA
My blog's name "ishyapluma" is made of two words ishya and pluma. Ishya from my mother tongue(kinyarwanda)means prosperity and pluma is a Spanish word for pen. Being very introverted, I started blogging because I was so inside my head and I needed a way to get out of it. later on, it became a way of reaching out to my audience. I now write to influence, to inspire and to give hope for a prosperous future to me as well as to everyone reading this blog. welcome to Ishyapluma! Contact: +250784266072 Archives
