This past week I was reading TIFFANY HADDISH’s autobiography entitled THE LAST BLACK UNICORN. It was recommended to me by my sister who is a fan of hers, I mean she is a fan of everything related to comedy. I didn’t have any particular interest in this Hollywood comedian before, I just remember seeing her in one of her famous movies (Nobody's fool) and I was like “Wow, this woman is funny” and that was all. Now that I have read her biography, I can witness that behind the Crazy Haddish we’ve all known, there is an incredibly strong woman who has struggled a lot to be where she is now.
Straight to the book, there are so many things I loved about it: 1.It is an easy read, it explains itself and it reads very fast. 2.It is structured like a conversation, reading it feels like Haddish talking to you. 3.There is some creativity in the way it is written, the book doesn’t follow a chronological order like other biographies. It is organized in topics: Like a topic then a story. 4.I really liked how it starts. Instead of an introduction, there is an invitation from Haddish inviting you to read her story. 5.And of course, the book is very hilarious and entertaining. Almost all stories are funny even the saddest are told in a funny way. 6.She is not ashamed of her failures and most embarrassing moments, for eg: she talks of her stand up performances where she cracked jokes and nobody laughed. 7. I know most celebrities memoirs are ghostwritten but I would be surprised if this one was not written by Haddish herself because it really sounds like her. you could feel her brutality, her craziness and her energy throughout the words. On the other hand, there are things that made me a little bit uncomfortable: like the book is far from being clean( if you know what I mean) and also she is brutally honest which can sound odd but it’s Tiffany Haddish, what else can you expect: she’s not the kind of beating around the bush. In summary, THE LAST BLACK UNICORN tells Tiffany Haddish’s story from her childhood, she grew up in South Central Los Angeles, it was a miserable life and it became worse when her mother got into a car accident and became mentally ill. At the age of only 8, Haddish had to take care of her mother and siblings. Her life really was a chaos: she’s been raised in a foster care and as she was growing up, she did many different jobs (legal and illegal) in order to survive. She tried many things before realizing that she could turn her sense of humor into a carrier. I liked this paragraph “I believe my purpose is to bring joy to people, to make them laugh, and to share my story to help them. To show people that no matter what, they matter, and they can succeed. No matter how bad things go, no matter how dark your life is, there is a reason for it. You can find beauty in it, and you can get better. I know, because I’ve done it. That’s why my comedy so often comes from my pain. In my life, and I hope in yours, I want us to grow roses out of the poop.” ― Tiffany Haddish, The Last Black Unicorn She shared so many other things for example: how kids at school teased her because of things she couldn’t change like her wart on her forehead. They called her a unicorn. She also talks of her complicated relationship with men, starting from his father who abandoned her, her step father who left after her mother got sick, his ex-husband who physically and mentally abused her and so many different men she dated. Another thing she highlights is how it isn’t easy to be a female comedian. Men always want to take advantage of you but she also come back to other nice men who supported her talent like Kevin Hart, she calls him her guardian angel. All in all Haddish has been through a lot, she has been homeless for a while, she's been into drugs, she has had an abortion and a miscarriage which add to a difficult childhood with a schizophrenic mother. However, this didn't make her a bitter person, she has always been nice to people and most of all she turned her pains into comedy. If you are a fan of Haddish, if you love reading autobiographies like me or if you want to laugh, THE LAST BLACK UNICORN is the right book for you.

😂😂 this woman is something else. Personally the story about the disabled guy at her work made me laugh so hard. And her trip with the Smiths.
