by Denyse INEZAIt’s been days that the lights are gone
You are in darkness, defenseless in the middle of nowhere. You are living in black and white, in the world of no colors. No hopes of being rescued, no assurance that things will be normal again It looks like there is no way out. You don’t seem to bear and no one seems to care. You are done, Done with life, done with love Maybe death will be fairer, you presume. Friends do not want to break your silence Your mom is sick of your drug dependency Your boss can’t handle your incompetence “I am sure no one will cry for my absence” “Everyone will be better off without me” your mind tells you. What is the meaning of life anyways? Pain, rejection, loneliness? Darkness? Isn’t life supposed to be exciting and colorful? Where are the colors, where is the rainbow? You wonder all these questions and I am not judging you It is not your fault, But I have something to tell you, a message from the future: Life is not always about colors; some days are of no colors. Happiness can’t exist without pain Love can make you cry today and laugh tomorrow. It is totally normal to feel weak and tired It is okay to be unproductive sometimes You can feel lonely, unhappy, unsure and it still is okay. People who surround you can sometimes show themselves to be mean And it is not always about you, they have their struggles too. Do not allow these days of no colors to cause you loose meaning of life, for darkness is also part of life. Do not let them cause you to do things you don't want. Because it is not okay to take drugs, It is not normal to want to hurt yourself Though it is not the end of the world I know you are brave; be bold Ask for help, there is hope. If not to your loved ones then to professionals help them to help you, this can be fixed. you know what is not fixable?....... "Putting an end to your life" Don’t consider suicide as an option, In times of no colors, lit a candle and wait patiently for the lights to come back. It’s a matter of time, we are almost there Waiting can be hard, but I promise it is worthy. You might not be seeing colors today, but there a rainbow waiting for you in the next street corner. #worldsuicidepreventionday2020 #workingtogethertopreventsuicide Outro I had never thought of suicide as something I should worry about, until one day when Christian, a 12 years old boy from a family I knew, was found hanged. It was on Christmas. What was supposed to be a joyful day, grievously turned into a nightmare. In the blink of an eye, internet had already turned this teenager’s decease into news headlines, hot debates and social media trend. The tragic news reached faster to everyone and what most of people did (including me) was criticizing, arguing and judging “he was so young, he had no reason to commit suicide”, “It is his parent’s fault”, “he wanted attention” ,etc. We all hid ourselves behind criticism and debates in order to avoid this question that I guess everyone had been wondering deep inside, a question that we will never know its answer since the only person who could answer it, is gone and will never come back. The question is WHY. Why did he decide to give up? Are we going to keep ask ourselves questions while waiting for the next victim to die from suicide? We all can do something to prevent the next suicide attempt, It can be huge or just small acts of kindness. Kindness is one of the pillars in suicide prevention. Therefore, be kind to anyone, from your siblings to a random stranger you meet on road. who knows! a simple "thank you" can give back meaning of life to someone. This is very important to understand because we don't know what battles people are fighting inside. "A simple smile can mean little to you or I but to someone thinking about suicide it can be the first step towards life"-International association for suicide prevention And finally to the possible next victim, This piece is for you, and for me as well I want remember in my days of no colors that it is just a night, tomorrow will be another day. I wish you read this, it can help you.... or not. Maybe your reasons are bigger than what I can imagine. But I will still ask you to stay, let's wait for your rainbow.

I don't know if I'm the only person who found sense in every sentence. This is one of the most powerfully and artfully articulated writing about suicide prevention. Take heart Denyse.. You got our back!! I can't wait the next article.

Who's behind the blogHello I am Denyse INEZA
My blog's name "ishyapluma" is made of two words ishya and pluma. Ishya from my mother tongue(kinyarwanda)means prosperity and pluma is a Spanish word for pen. Being very introverted, I started blogging because I was so inside my head and I needed a way to get out of it. later on it became a way of reaching out to my audience. I now write to heal, to influence, to inspire and to give hope for a prosperous future to me as well as to everyone reading this blog. Welcome to Ishyapluma!
